A symposium on governance of Non-lingua Franca Countries and Regions in Asia was held at Xi'an International Studies University (XISU)  on October 29, 2021. Scholars and experts from Peking University, Shanghai International Studies University, Shaanxi Normal University, Information Engineering University, and Yunnan University participate in the event and delivered keynote speeches. Teacher and student representatives from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) attended the symposium. Professor Tang Xuemei, associate dean of the SOAS presided over the symposium.

During the session, Ma Fude, dean of the SOAS, extended a warm welcome to the attendees, and briefed on the development of SOAS. Scholars at different universities delivered keynote presentations on various topics from China's state policies and philosophy on governance to social problems in Pakistan. Ji Guanghui, the secretary general of the  party committee of the SOAS, concluded the symposium and inspired more efforts in the training of professionals for less common languages.
